Chapter 8- Family Celebrations: Birthdays, Christmas, Vacations, and Graduations

- Xmas and Ocean This home movie is a perfect example of a large 8mm movie reel can contain footage from years. Small clips, about 1-2 minutes in length, string together to show a family though birthdays, graduations, summer vacations, Christmas celebrations, and back again, over several years. We start off with the Fourth of July sparklers. This was always a favorite of mine when I was a kid Then we see footage from a child's birthday party, complete with red and yellow party hats! In the next scene the family enjoys some horseback riding, although I am not familiar with the breed of horses. The smallest child rides a small horse- maybe a pony. The next scene is a very familiar site in home movies. Capturing footage out the window of a moving vehicle. Don't worry, the cameraman is not the driver! This footage shows a car's eye view of diving down the interstate. Then, summer heat demands that the family visit the popular swimming pool, complete with slides! Continuing with the summer vacation, the family visits some Huge waterfalls, maybe the famous Niagara falls. Great footage of the rainbows over the falls. Then the vacation takes the family to the ocean. They build sandcastles, swim in the water, play in the ocean waves, and sunbathe. The many children in attendance are anxiously waiting to water ski and use the jet-ski. Looks like an outdoor picnic to celebrate a birthday! Then, it's Christmas time.
